Medium Pipe Dream
$23.50 – $26.50 (inc GST)
The Pipe Dream is a foraging toy of Kirsty’s own making. They are made in 3 different sizes to suit a range of parrots and the medium is best suited to Cockatiels, Conures, Caiques, Lorikeets, Quakers and Indian Ringnecks.
Your parrot just needs to lift the lid out of the way and reach their beak inside the pipe to retrieve their reward. You can mix seed/pellets with bird safe foraging substrate inside the toy or use larger items like nuts, beads or chunks of vegetables wrapped in paper. When first introducing this toy, you can use a piece of sticky tape to hold one lid open for your bird to learn where to find the food. After they have used it this way for a few days, you can remove the tape and let them pick the lid up themselves.
The stainless steel chain running through the toy, helps to hold the lids a little more securely to add some difficulty. Pacifiers adorn the ends of the chain.
The Pipe dream is made with bird safe, tough pvc and all hardware is stainless steel. There are plastic beads and cardboard birdy bagels for your bird to play with too. At the top, there is an ‘o’ ring to attach your own hanging link to. The Medium Pipe Dream suits Cockatiels, Conures, Quakers, Caiques, Indian Ringnecks & most Lorikeets. Birds that like to chew and destroy plastic may break the plastic lids over time and I would suggest using the acrylic lid option for Indian Ringnecks and destructive parrots.
For Budgies and Lovebirds, there is a small toy available and for Alexandrines to Macaws, the Large Pipe Dream is available and comes only with acrylic lids.

My conure loves the pipe dream. She climbs all over it and gets her treats out while hanging upside down. The birdie bagels are great for her to chew on and the coloured dummies add a bright fun element. A great toy to keep my girl busy when I can’t always have her out in the house.

A well made toy. My Quaker worked it out quite quickly so I up the difficulty level by filling it with scrunched paper or recycled paper kitty litter as well as treats. That slows her down 🙂

This is one of the first foraging toys I purchased for my flock and is one of my girl ‘tiel, Lucy’s, favourites. Over time though, she has found it easier and easier to procure her treats, so I’ve been making it more of a challenge by adding a higher ratio of Breeder’s Choice cat litter to the mix and hiding her treats in the 2cm vine balls and the featherweight foot toys. The bagels are a nice touch too, as they provide some additional fun for the birds, even if they’re not in the mood to forage.

This looks awesome. My weiros are still new to this toy but I won’t be surprise if they’re all over it. Have put some treats in it for my weiros to pick on. Another 5 star from the Crazy Bird Lady from Bunbury, WA

This pipe dream is amazing! I left one of the lids open as suggested by Kirsty so that Charlie knows how to access the treats inside. Charlie learnt to open the lids within one day so I added in Breeder’s Choice Cat litter (safe for birds) as foraging substrate to make it harder for Charlie to get his treats. Keeps him busy along with many other different foraging toys!

We were as excited about this toy as the birds. It is perfect. More than one bird can use it at once (essential for anybody with cockatiels that hate sharing), it holds a large amount of food (meaning it can account for much of their daily intake), it’s not difficult to figure out but does require practice with the technique (which means birds shouldn’t get bored), and it is very well made with bird safety and product longevity clearly a priority. Cleaning is a breeze, and it comes with sacrificial cardboard bagels which provides extra fun between meal courses. Our cockatiels love it, and it has earned its place as a staple on the regular foraging toy rotation.
